Youbet.com, the Internet provider of thoroughbred, quarter horse and harness racing content in the US has signed a multi-year agreement with VIS iTV to become the U.S. platform for the launch of I-Race.

Punters will however have to wait until the first quarter of 2005, before they can play the Scottish company’s popular virtual horse management and race entry game, which lets punters a chance to own, train and race a stable of virtual horses. Broadcast from Scotland, I-Race, VIS iTV is a 50:50 joint venture company between Flextech Television and VIS entertainment.

‘The I-Race agreement is in line with Youbet’s content development strategy. We want to give our customers the best racing content available anywhere and I-Race has no peer when it comes to the world of virtual racing. Our 24/7 racing content that seems certain to both satisfy race enthusiasts and attract new fans to the sport,’ says CEO Charles F. Champion.

Virtual horse ownership games are similar to fantasy leagues for professional football and baseball and can be played all year along, regardless of the reason, giving operators a steady source of revenue.

‘The U.S. market for virtual horseracing will be substantial and that the agreement with Youbet will help establish a strong foothold among American racing fans. I-Race content coupled with the strength of Youbet’s platform will deliver stunning levels of realism...plus complete control over timing and format,’ says VIS iTV CEO Simon J. Grieve.
