Leach Bill Puts Pressure On Internet Gaming
By sam
Legislation that makes it illegal for banks or individuals to accept credit cards, checks or electronic forms of payment for Internet gambling was passed yesterday by the House Financial Services Committee.

Rep. Jim Leach, R-Iowa’s bill, which was previously part of an anti-money-laundering bill passed last week, got through by a vote of 34-18. The measure had been shed from the anti-money laundering bill to ease it’s passage through the house is now known separately as the ‘Unlawful Internet Gambling Funding Prohibition Act.’

The bill does allow ‘games of skill’ which include fantasy sports leagues, and educational games. It also specifies that ISP’s and telecommunications companies would not be considered ‘gambling entities.’

The bill will now be passed to the House Judiciary Commission who will consider the measure’s future.
