|Inspired by her unstable relationship history, online bookmaker MyBookie has laid down a betting challenge to Jennifer Lopez and her new husband Marc Anthony. The bet being that if they manage to stay married for eighteen months, that is until December 31st 2005, the online operator will donate US$100,000 to a charity of their choice.|
Punters on the website seem to think that the result of the wager would easily be on the bookmaking site’s side, with the vast majority of punters betting that the couple will never make this deadline. The marriage on June 7 was J-Lo’s third, and came shortly after her high profile broken engagement to actor Ben Affleck. The marriage took place just five days after the groom’s divorce from his first wife a former Miss Universe came through.
Director of MyBookie’s Jimmy Mason released the following statement explaining the bet they are offering the singing and acting megastar: 'We wish them only the best - we're big fans of hers! But given J.Lo's turbulent history in the relationship department, and the massive response from players betting that they won't even make it one year, we decided to offer the challenge.'
MyBookie’s is a site known for its interesting wagers, which currently include taking bets on the next James Bond and the date of capture of Osama Bin Laden. This newest bet is offered in all seriousness, requiring only some communication on behalf of the couple that they accept the bet, and notification of which charity they would choose for the donation on their behalf should they win. Mason added in his statements: 'I sincerely hope they prove us wrong, because I'm sure the money will go to a great cause. Hey, Julia Roberts was the poster-girl for rocky relationships, and she's been happily married to Danny Moder for well over 18 months, and even making babies! We will be proud to cut the check - we believe love rules!'
