|An organisation known as ‘The DeVille Group’ are submitting a new initiative to open the state up to gambling Nevada-style. The proposals would allow a range of Nevada type games in casinos that could be opened anywhere, rather than just on Indian Reservations.|
The proposal would lift restrictions on slot machines and casino games such as roulette, craps and Jai Alai. The initiative would also permit Internet gambling which is currently not legal in California.
The DeVille Group claims to have committed $2 million to collecting signatures of more than a million people to back the proposals.
The future for such a bill still remains doubtful, many believe it is unlikely to pass. The fact that the proposals include the abolition of the California Gambling Control Commission, the attorney general’s Division of Gambling Control, the California Horse Racing Board and the State Athletic Commission means it will have heavy opposition.
