‘EFX Alive’ first opened in March 1995 and is now one of the most successful shows in Las Vegas history. The name of the show was inspired by the term in stage and film, which applies to the special effects which give a production its visual impact.
MGM Grand spent $45 million on the production and a further $30 million on its permanent home, the EFX Theatre. The theatre features 6,000 lights, 85,000 watts of computer controlled multi-channel surround sound, NASA computer technology and enough electricity to power 1,440 homes. ‘EFX Alive’ uses approximately 10lbs of pyrotechnic materials during each performance. It also features one of the largest 3-D films ever produced and has the biggest show sets in Las Vegas.
