|Mark Davies, Managing Director of Betfair, has said he is confident that the company will receive its Australian betting license as expected, despite the inevitable recriminations from certain quarters over the Fallon scandal. |
'We will get licensed – but when and where remains to be seen, but I have no doubt we will get licensed eventually,' he told Australia’s Courier newspaper today. Davies added that the inevitable accusations that Betfair is the cause of the recent corruption scandal are misplaced and that recent events have shown that the company is not the cause, but the solution to the problem of corruption is racing. Betfair was the only betting agency to offer information to the police concerning the possible spate of race fixing over the past two years is the only company that closely monitors its betting patterns.
“All the bets that are being used as evidence took place on Betfair, which is not the same thing,' Davies said, adding that there is no way of tracking corrupt bets made at traditional bookmakers such as Ladbrokes or William Hill.
'Police would not be able to make a judgment on corruption if there wasn't hard and fast information as to what betting took place, and we're the only people in the world who can provide that.'
