Top jockey speaks out for racing and betting

Leading jockey Frankie Dettori has spoken out in support of betting exchanges. The popular and successful sports personality is lending his support, following the arrests made last week in Britain regarding allegations of race-fixing. Jockey Kieren Fallon was arrested last Wednesday by the City of London Police following allegations of race fixing. Also arrested were the sport’s Darren Williams, Fergal Lynch and trainer Karl Burke. All four have been released on bail, but investigations into the allegations will continue. Dettori, who currently is in second place behind Fallon in the jockey’s championship has expressed the need to speak out for the sport in light of this latest development. He has made comments supporting the existence of betting exchanges, and vouching for the integrity of his sport. He is keen to convey to punters and fans that race fixing is not endemic in the industry, and that bets placed by punters are not in vain. In his statement he said: “I think the betting exchange is quite good because it will show up who is actually not playing the game right. There is always somebody trying to be too clever. This is going to be a long-haul inquiry. It is the biggest scandal to have ever hit the sport. I want to give the punters confidence that if they do have a bet on the race, they are going to be 100 per cent happy that it is going to be run as it should be.”
