|The period of free agency that begins following the World Series is this year led by Jason Giambi and Barry Bonds. Giambi, last years American League MVP, and Bonds, the new single season homerun champ and National League MVP, are among some of the league’s premiere players who have filed for free agency. Intertps.com has become the first established bookmaker to release odds on what teams will sign Giambi and Bonds, having realized that they are two of the hottest free agents in the majors.|
Intertops.com, the Internet’s largest and first sports betting site, has given the New York Yankees top odds to win the Giambi sweepstakes, currently listed at 4/5 odds (the equivalent of winning $4 for every $5 bet). Although the Yankees are the favorites, the St. Louis Cardinals (6/5), Oakland Athletics (2/1), and New York Mets (12/1) also appear to be prepared to battle to sign Giambi.
CEO and co-founder of Intertops.com, Simon Noble, said, “George Steinbrenner has apparently told his executive team to apply the full-court press and get Giambi in pinstripes. With money being no object in New York, it appears Giambi may jump at the chance to play for a team that has made it to the World Series in each of the past four seasons.”
