|The competition between Frankie Dettori and Kieren Fallon for the lead in the jockey’s title race remains hard fought. Dettroi briefly regained the lead with a 14-1 double success at Yarmouth yeterday. Fallon then caught up with a win at Salisbury, leaving both jockeys level at 149 winners each. |
The odds offered in terms of betting do not really give much room between the two jockeys either. Ladbokes are now offering Dettori at 4/5, reduced from 5/6, and even odds for Fallon who was also previously listed at 5/6. William Hill and Coral are offering both jockeys at the same odds of 5/6 and Blue Square have Dettori at 8/11 and even odds for Fallon.
The race for the coveted title looks set to remain close until the final race. Should Dettori win it would be his first title since 1995. Fallon who has won the championship six times is now being largely cheered on by the bookies, as financially speaking they stand to fare better should he win in 2004. A spokesperson for Ladbrokes, Balthazar Fabricius said of the contest: “Given that Fallon has cost us dear over the last 18 months thanks to the likes of Kris Kin, Russian Rhythm, North Light and Ouija Board, it is good to able to be cheering him for once. Frankie will cost us £100,000 (€146,700) if he wins.” Coral spokesperson David Stevens said, “This race should go all the way to the wire but for now we’ll let the punters decide who they want to win.”
