|A new report accuses bookmakers of not being ‘pro-active’ enough in their pursuit of the £116 billion world betting market, adding that being content to serve the rest of the world through the Internet lacks vision. The report, published by the Global Betting and Gaming Consultants, states that UK bookmakers are “generally regarded among the best regulated and most efficient on earth” yet they have had little success when it comes to moving overseas.|
Warwick Bartlett of the GBBC said: “To serve the world through the Internet alone is to miss out on a major opportunity. UK companies have the marketing skills, and they now have the technology, to expand overseas. If they fail to do so, they will see their UK dominance undermined by foreign competition once the new Gambling Bill takes the demand test out of licensing.”
Stanley Leisure is praised as one operation that has a good internationalist outlook, having opened operations in Croatia, Romania and Italy.
