|London (5/10/04) - Betfair, the world’s leading online betting exchange, is opening its poker room to new players on Sunday 10th October for its first tournament, where £100,000 is up for grabs.|
“Since our launch in May, the existing Betfair community has helped greatly in setting up the dynamics of our poker room. Existing customers are continuing to sign up and opening the room to a broader audience will further enhance liquidity,” said Ben Fried, Betfair’s poker manager.
According to industry data, Betfair is the fastest-growing online poker room, and since its launch has signed in excess of 15,000 users, with 7,000 active users on a monthly basis. Betfair estimates that it already represents more than half of William Hill’s poker room and about 30 per cent of Ladbrokes’ poker room.
Betfair Poker is the only poker room on the internet which allows players to reduce the commission they pay on sports betting. “Betfair Poker is a one-stop shop for all our customers’ gaming requirements and this unique service will attract new customers to both poker and the betting exchange going forward,” said Mr Fried.
The tournament, which starts at 6pm on Sunday 10th October on www.betfairpokerchampionship.com, has guaranteed prize money of £100,000. The winner will also win a trip to the Melbourne Cup in November.
Betfair is offering seats at large land-based tournaments, for example, the Irish Masters at the end of October and to the Caribbean Poker Classic in St Maarten in December. It also offers tools to help less experienced players improve their game, such as Hold’em or Fold’em, which helps player identifying the strength of their starting hand and is available on http://www.betfairpromo.com/holdorfold.
