| Britain’s relaxed attitude to gambling may set it up as the leading light in the new broadband revolution, according to research by Schema Consulting.|
Despite the fact that the U.K’s DSL penetration is lagging behind every other European country except Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Luxembourg, gambling is set to be one of the highest earners and the U.K is in a prime position to take advantage.
David Brown, president of Schema predicts that online entertainment will make up 6 percent of entertainment spending, accounting for $38 billion in 2005.
Online gambling will take the biggest percentage of this figure according to Schema, who estimate gambling’s cut at 39 percent of the total.
With other countries more likely to have laws restricting online gambling, the U.K is set to take 35 percent of the overall spread, a considerable sum considering their lack of advancement technologically.
