|Following his recent success for the Red Sox, Wagerweb.com are now posting odds on which team pitcher Pedro Martinez will be with on the opening day of MLB in 2005. Martinez’s role in the Red Sox victory over the Yankess and the St Louis Cardinals to win their first title in 86 years, means that there are several teams likely to be keen to sign him, now that his current contract has expired and he is a free agent.|
It is a strong possibility that Martinez will be re-signed to the Red Sox, but odds are also being offered on a selection of competitor teams who may succeed in luring him to their teams. As CEO of Wagerweb, Dave Johnson explains: 'There are several teams that not only could really use an ace like Pedro, but are seriously going to court him in the off-season. We have already received a lot of wagers on Pedro staying with the Red Sox as well as him going to the rival Yankees. We have also taken some money on Martinez going to the San Francisco Giants and reuniting with his former manager Felipe Alou.'
Currently the odds offered are: 1:3 for the Red Sox to retain Martinez; 2:1 for him to defect to the Yankees; 3:1 for the Mets to grab the pitcher; 4:1 for the San Francisco Giants; 5:1 for the Florida Marlins; 8:1 for the Cleveland Indians; 10:1 for the St Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks; and finally 1:2 for any other team.
