|Casinos in Australia have backed a strong new police initiative to crackdown on crime within the betting world.|
The cooperation comes after pressure from Crown Casino in Victoria, the fifth biggest in the world, to ban suspected criminals from their site. Crown spokesman Gary O'Neill said the casino had cooperated with the police in identifying criminals but did not have law enforcement powers. 'It should not surprise anybody that some criminals visit casinos, and not just in Australia but everywhere in the world that criminals visit from time to time, and it's to our credit that we've been supportive.”
But the removal of big-spending criminals from the casino precincts would have a minimal impact on Crown's revenue, he added.
'Quite frankly, we have 1.5 million members of the Crown club and 20,000 VIP players and out of those we would have five or six thousand high rollers and even a figure of say 80 criminals would be totally insignificant and the amounts they gamble would not register on the screen.”
