|The excitement over Las Vegas stirs in the online gaming world when they announce that they may lease the name www.LasVegas.com to an online casino operator. However, the hoopla fizzles each and every time the city council considers, and then reconsiders the proposal.|
As of late, Oscar Goodman, Mayor of Las Vegas, has been leaning towards leasing the famous city name, not only to bring the city additional revenue from online casino gaming, but to advance the world’s gambling capital’s profile in the digital realm.
His opposition however fears that the name and reputation of the city are left open to the tarnishing effects of unscrupulous operators should the name be associated to a site that can’t effectively screen problem gamblers, children and residence of the USA.
Dennis Neilander, chairman of Nevada's Gaming Control Board, voices these fears in proclaiming: “With Internet gaming you run the risk of having a scandal occur…It's unclear if the technology exists to keep children from wagering on the sites and to prevent people from playing on the sites if they are in places where Internet gambling is illegal.'
