China to Crack Down on iGaming
By philip
The Chinese government has said it will launch a crack down on online gambling, the China Daily has reported. Xi Guohua of the Ministry of Information said this week that it will seek to combat domestic and oversees gaming websites by ‘enhancing administration, monitoring the Internet and tightening related approval and filing procedures’.

Despite a traditional fondness for games of chance among the populace, gambling has always been illegal under the Communist government, apart from the semi-autonomous region of Macau. Xi said that the government will launch a ‘relentless fight’ against internet gambling and illegal lotteries enjoyed by ‘corrupt Chinese officials and state-owned company executives’.

A telephone hotline will be set up to report illegal gambling, while websites set up by foreign companies will be shut down, and gambling facilities will be demolished, Xi said.
