|The “Within Limits - Problem Gambling Prevention Month” program will blanket the province of Ontario with information about gambling related risks, tips on avoiding the risks and where to get help if you have a gambling problem.|
Building on the highly successful pilot project in 2004, this year’s “Within Limits” will use extensive printed materials, local posters and interactive displays as well as events in many communities across Ontario. Targeting adults between 35 and 59, the program will now be province-wide and available in both French and English for the first time.
Laurie Bell, RGC Director of Prevention Programs, notes, 'We have introduced many enhancements this year. We are very grateful to our colleagues at COSTI Immigrant Services for producing Within Limits program materials in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian and spearheading information provision in those communities.'
This year the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation agreed to open the doors to casinos and lottery outlets across the province. In addition, many local race tracks and bingo halls are bringing the program to their sites.
“Within Limits” also has the support of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care with the provincial government providing a grant of $1.5million towards the project.
Jon Kelly, RGC CEO, sees great benefit in the co-operation underlying Within Limits. 'The RGC has long believed that reducing problem gambling depends on the commitment of all stakeholders including treatment professionals, researchers, government departments, and gaming providers. This program is an example of that principle at its best.'
