|Online gambling looks set to provide a spur to the hard-hit tech sector, with companies specialising in electronic betting hardware and software anticipating nationwide legalisation of gambling in the US. |
Las Vegas businessman Fabrizzio Boccardi for example, is betting on legalisation. He has signed up Seattle-based game developer Lithtech to design a handheld gambling device that will allow anywhere, anytime betting.
Boccardi is keeping poker-faced about the exact specifications of the new device, but The Wall Street Journal claims he will begin marketing his invention within two years.
According to the WSJ, Barry Mindes, chairman of Interactive Systems, is also developing a handheld device for would-be US punters based on an interactive television betting system developed by his company for German media group Kirch.
