Bookie takes hit on colour of Queen’s Hat
By staff
William Hill received several requests for the colour of the Queen Hat on Ladies Day today to be brown. They think someone must have been in the know as Her Majesty arrived at Royal Ascot at York in a brown and tan outfit.

Hills spokeswoman Jennie Prest said, 'We laid £50 at 20-1 and £200 at 10-1, but it was when we had a request for a good four figure bet from our William Hill shop in Windsor that we got really suspicious and closed the book! It's not a colour we had considered to be a favourite, so we were surprised, but somebody has made a tidy sum!'

'We've always thought that Palace insiders like a little flutter - there was a big gamble on Charles and Diana's first son to be named 'William' - but this is the first time they've got us on the Queens hat.'
