|Bookmaker William Hill is rolling out electronic point of sale (Epos) systems in all its shops to speed up the payment of winnings to lucky punters.|
After trials in several outlets earlier in the year, Hills started the Epos roll-out in April with a target of converting 50 shops per week.
Half of William Hillís 1613 licensed betting offices now have the system in place, and the installations are on target to be completed by the end of the year.
The system allows staff to register bets faster and also to pay customers quicker, by removing the need for staff to manually settle bets.
David Hood, Hills Director of Public Relations, said the company took its time to ensure the system was right for their needs: 'Many earlier systems (used by Hills competitors) have been fraught with glitches, but we are confident that our patience in ensuring the product was spot on for our needs prior to the roll-out is now paying dividends by the fact that everything is going very smoothly.'
William Hill has also completed the acquisition of Stanley Leisure's 561 betting shops and will update the present Stanley systems with the enhanced software being used by Hills.
