|Magna Entertainment Corp, one of the newly-named licensees for Internet based- race betting in California, could be close to completing a deal to purchase Lone Star Park near Dallas, after meetings which started last spring.|
According to a report in Thoroughbredtimes.com, Magna Chairman Frank Stronach visited Lone Star over Easter weekend last year and a contract proposal for the racetrack could come in as soon as two weeks.
The city of Grand Prairie owns the Lone Star property, which is leased by a management company operated by Lone Star Chairman Bob Kaminski and the family of Dallas real estate developer Trammel Crow. The company holds the state license to conduct pari-mutuel wagering.
The acquisition of Lone Star would boost the programming of Magna’s recently launched account wagering operation as well as the Racetrack Television Network, the new satellite television operation that will be operated by Magna and partners Greenwood Racing and Roberts Communications Network.
Lone Star’s 70-day spring Thoroughbred meeting commences on April 4 and continues through July 14.
