McCartney in talks to fill Lewis-v-Tyson slot

People magazine reports that Paul McCartney is to be paid an astronomical £3 million/$4 million to play a one-off gig at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.The 6th April show is being pencilled in as a replacement for the Lennox Lewis-Mike Tyson fight.

The hotel's spokesman, Scott Ghertner, said Monday, 'We have not signed him yet, but talks are continuing and we hope to make an announcement within a few days.'

Sir Paul, is planning his first tour in almost ten years. The DRIVIN' USA tour, launched to promote his DRIVIN' RAIN album, will truck through principal cites coast-to-coast, beginning at the beginning of April.

It is expected to start in California, though no dates or venues are confirmed. The tour may now begin with the Las Vegas date. It will climax in New York at the end of the month. There is also one show in Canada and a May tour of Europe.

Macca's most recent stage performance was at The Concert For New York at Madison Square Garden last October. Prior to that he performed a secret gig at the replica of the tiny Cavern Club in Liverpool, U.K.

McCartney is known to like performing in big venues and the MGM Grand is the largest hotel in the world.
