Premier Paul Lennon was in Melbourne yesterday meeting members of the racing industry.

Speculation heightened that the deal had been done, although an announcement is expected later this week.

Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Council chairman Geoff Harper said freedom-of-information requests had been lodged in a last-ditch bid for more information.

Mr Harper said the council was yet to see a business case despite the fact an announcement was due by Friday: 'This is a radical change for the racing industry, yet the financial modelling remains untested.

'If there is a genuine financial case to support the licensing of a betting exchange, why hasn't it been released?'

Greens leader Peg Putt again called for a social and economic impact statement.'Real concerns about possible increases in problem gambling and the effect of Betfair should be examined.”
