|This year’s ‘Coach of the Year’ award is likely to be hotly contested according to Dave Johnson, CEO of WagerWeb.com. Johnson believes that, “We have seen some amazing coaching jobs this year in the NFL… we could be seeing a golden year for NFL coaches in this age of parity. The early favourite to win the award is clearly Colts coach Tony Dungy who is a 2-1 favourite out of the gate.’|
Tony Dungy, coach of the Indianapolis Colts, almost did the impossible and took his charges to the brink of a perfect season. Even with their recent loss to San Diego, Dungy’s team are still head and shoulders above every other team.
The big news of the year, however, has been the rise of upstart coaches, including Bengals' Marvin Lewis and the Bears' Lovie Smith, both of whom command teams primed for a run toward the Superbowl and boasting some of the best offensive and defensive statistics in the league.
Another dark horse for the award is Seahawks' coach Mike Holmgren who can rightly lay claim to being the most underrated coach in the. Holmgren has Seattle vying for home field advantage in the NFC playoffs and well-equipped for a charge into January.
