|One of the most obscure wagers in gambling history has paid £25,000 ($43,880) to an English football fan who placed a bet that Liverpool’s Spanish midfielder, Xabi Alonso, would score from inside his own half this premiership season.|
Alonso managed the feat in the dying seconds of Liverpool’s thrilling 5-3 win against Luton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.
The winning punter, Liverpool fan Adrian Hayward, placed his £200 bet at odds of 125-1 after noticing the Spaniard had tried several times to achieve the feat.
Hayward told the Daily Mail, “Since placing the bet, I've always had a vision in my mind that it (the goal) would come when the opposing keeper came out for a corner in a cup game. I couldn't believe it when Luton got a corner and the keeper started to run upfield. I thought I was going to pass out. When it went in, I went crazy.’
