Ladbrokes’ eGaming proves a winner

Bookmaker Labrokes’ eGaming division is proving a winner after only two years. The division posted an operating profit of £2 million ($2.72 million) for 2001, which accounts for over 9% of overall turnover.

Ladbrokes.com and ladbrokescasino.com now have more than 260,000 customers in 160 countries and are available in eight different languages. This will rise to 11 languages before the start of the football World Cup this summer.

In a statement to accompany parent company Hilton Group’s results, Ladbrokes said: “Customers like to switch between the sports book and casino and the success of both services are clearly interdependent. The sports book is the primary vehicle for customer recruitment.”

Ladbrokes has just launched a sports betting service on the Sky Interactive digital TV platform and is part of the attheraces consortium that plans to launch an interactive TV horseracing channel on Sky digital in May. The company plans to further develop its interactive TV services on ntl, Telewest and Bush TV in the UK by June, and a spokesperson for The Hilton Group says that over the next five years, e-gaming will become a large part of the Ladbrokes stable.
