|One thing that online casinos can’t compete with (yet) – is megastar live entertainment, and Caesar’s Palace seem determined to bring back the golden era of Vegas with a reported $100 million, three year deal for Celine Dion to play five nights a week, forty weeks a year. |
According to Geoff Boucher of the LA Times, the casino resort will build a $95 million, 4,000 seater theatre to stage the Canadian chanteuse’s warblings, with shows scheduled to begin next March. The show will be 90 minutes long, and will be an extravaganza that would, according to Dion, be impossible to do on the road: 'It's kind of impossible to travel with a show like this; the effects and the decor and the whole thing makes it technically impossible. We would have to have a base. And we found that in Las Vegas.”
This is the first time an artiste of Dion’s stature has agreed to such a venture – although big name rock and pop acts are coming back to Vegas for one-off dates – Paul McCartney for one, engagements of this scope haven’t happened since the glory days of the Sinatra and the Rat Pack in the 1950s and 60s.
